I am already thinking while writing this blog post, isn’t holidays self-care anyway? Holidays are all about slowing down and unwinding . Only the idea of being by the water, not have to answer work emails (even though I did) and just concentrate on things I enjoy sounds like a good amount of self-care itself. However self-care during holidays can be tricky since it is the time that most of us consume more junk food, alcohol and according to statistics people spend even more time in social media…
This year I had a clear plan for maintaining my self-care routines and enjoy my holidays even more:
Fasting Ok you must think I am insane but I am one of those people that I leave for holidays for 5 days and I can come back with 5 kilos… Not this time. My real struggle was how to even achieve staying healthy when there is all this good food and ice-cream I want to indulge? So I made a deal with myself. You can have a healthy breakfast and then you can eat and drink whatever you want for dinner and you have a 7 hour window to do that. No eating after that… no eating before… just green tea. And it worked. Healthy way of living … probably not. Nothing healthy with fried food and eating meat for 3 days in a row but definitely less distractive than eating 3 times per day like there is no tomorrow…
Hydrate During summer holidays is when the body needs even more hydration than before. The sun is hot, we sweat a lot and green tea is my best friend… apparently hot beverages can keep you cooler during heat…
Exercise Following my morning yoga regime, take long walks at the beach and swim in my own pace. I mean can you imagine better excercise?
Meditate Is there a better place than a beach or a mountain full of trees and a nice breeze to meditate? Holidays is the easiest time of the year for this.
Bye bye social I set a timer of 10 min. per day and I sticked with it. I spent most of it uploading my stories and photos and quickly scrolled down to catch up with my friends.
Make up what? I do not get how people do holidays with full make up on. I am not these people. No make up during holidays is my favourite thing.
Dress to caress… I love dressing as comfortably as possible and I cannot find a better time to do that than summer holidays. Long dresses, comfy flip flops or just my bikini and I am ready to go.
Do not forget your self-care. Holidays are the perfect time to dig more into it and remove negative thinking or daily stress from your routines. Happy Summer 2019 everyone!
